Recently we get a huge shipping delay for a Spanish client, client confirm his city and zipcode below:
City: Las Palmas De Gran Canaria – Canary Islands (SPAIN)
So when we list receiver details we input receiver country SPAIN, City Las Palmas De Gran Canaria and zip code 35019, but both DHL and Fedex cannot recognise the city name and zip code, and they request us confirm the right zip code and city name.
But buyer insist the city name and zip is correct, even send online checking result from www.correos.es
But DHL and Fedex don’t agree even with this proof, we have no solution, only to find solution ourself.
Google reallyhelps, at first, I google and find http://www.geonames.org, very good site for city and zip checking, but search result is same as buyer show me. I think maybe it has some alias, but find nothing, and then I think maybe use other hotel address within the same city to see if other zip code also works, but still nothing, all hotel address and the zip code I found out is not recognised by DHL and Fedex system, this make me feel very strange, why the whole address zip codes not recognis at all? It looks like this place don’t belong to Spain at all.
Suddenly, I got that maybe it is same as Taiwai and Hongkong in China, although they belong to China, but sometimes when making shipment we should write destination country as Taiwai instead of China.
Google comes to help again, the map shows exactly CRAN CANARIA is far a way from Spain mainland, near to African continent, maybe this is the reason.
Now go back to DHLhttps://dct.dhl.com/, input country CANARY ISLANDS instead of Spain, everything correct, zip code and city name perfectly match.
